Just wanting to get your guys thoughts on quinoa.

I'm not huge on brown rice, and have yet to try quinoa, but I hear texture wise it's 10 times better, and contains most essential amino acids.

Interested on thoughts..

Yup it's a so called 'superfood' - it has a million benefits and I keep forgetting to pick some up. It'd be a great replacement for rice. My mum made it for dinner one night when I went over, she mixed all kiiiiiiiiiiiiiinds of goodies in with it. Hell it was good.

Does it have much flavour of its own? Or is it flavoured by what you put it with?

Yip, I highly recommend you give it a whirl. I have it every day as the carbs in my pre-workout meal (1-2 hours before training), mixed as a 2:1 ratio with brown rice (just to be thrifty otherwise I would have solely quinoa). Just get the white quinoa though, the red & black varieties don't digest as well due to being unhulled (and I have read the hull holds no nutritional value anyway).

It cooks exactly the same as you would rice, I find the absorption method the best i.e. 1 cup quinoa to 2 cups water brought to boil, then lid on and simmer until no liquid left.

Doesn't have much of a taste itself, kinda nutty, but soaks up flavours/sauces/oils real well

I get mine from the bulk bin section of Pak n Save or at Bin Inn, even then it's still quite expensive, but I swear by its superfood status. Hope you find it as beneficial as I do!

I've found quinoa keeps well in the fridge, I make a big pot up every Sunday to last the week, will suit your plan well

Bumping this up.

I bought bulk in this at Pak n Save a couple of weeks ago, and its lasted a fair while, going by how crazy I tend to go through rice.
The stuff is amazing. Tastes great, easy to cook, and pretty much goes with anything.

I usually make a big batch and store it in the fridge as Gyro recommended.
